Geneva Mechanism Clock

Inspired by the simple elegance of the geneva mechanism, this clock was designed to take advantage of the transfer of movement from one gear to the other to designate time. The gear with the pin rotates continuously, counting up the minutes, and after each hour lines up perfectly to advance the spur gear one tick forward.

Gears custom designed and CNC machined out of brass. Indicator and back body frame CNC machined out of aluminum. Frame housing CNC routed out of walnut. Mechanism uses a stepper motor, controlled by an Arduino and a real-time chip to advance the minutes gear. January 2015.
